The entrances to the Chapel are faced away from the center of the building and towards the tabernacle as a reminder to all who enter that the central point of the Chapel is not the altar or the crucifix, but rather the location of the Eucharist. The entry to the outdoor narthex of the Chapel is created with a tent-like flap extending over the entry, creating an enclosed space that is still outdoors. The gold dome at the top of the structure proclaims the university's Christian character, and can be seen from miles away from large buildings throughout downtown, uptown, and the medical center.Ī setup of the architecture also shifts the focus of the building. ![]() Through its height, the Chapel dominates the whole campus. ![]() The Chapel itself contrasts with all of the other buildings on campus, as it is composed of white stucco and black granite as opposed to the rose-colored brick that comprises the exterior of the other campus buildings. The cube and plane interplay with the dome, creating a sense of the dome not being a closing vault on top of the Chapel, but rather an opening to the heavens. The granite plane bisects the cube and opens up the chapel to light. The cube comprises the majority of the building, including the main seating area, while the dome (a semi-sphere) rises high above the cube. I can fly in MODO when it comes to modeling. I actually enjoy modeling in MODO due to ease of use and speed. I really wanted to make a large post about how much I detest Autodesk and how archaic their product UIs are, but I’m not gonna.Īnyway, I use MODO Indie and Blender for modeling. The second one is what would hurt most for Companies like Autodesk and that would take time. and large studios are slowly building their own tech to stop paying homage to Autodesk. Most freelancers are moving to either Blender, Houdini or Cinema4d. Nothing much you can do about it really in the short term, but in the long term they will be losing that’s for sure. The best case scenario for anyone who has the time or is starting up these days in games is Blender (even if you have to put up with an awkward interface and some shortcomings, maybe those shortcomings may not be that evident in games productions).īut yea it’s the same story with threads like these but many of us can’t help but to express some frustration with large corporations and their monopoly (just head over to Autodesk forums you’ll see some fo the fury). ![]() Just look at Cinematics at Blur today all simulated and rendered in Max which has seen little to nothing of a major update since Blizzard did their first cinematics with it for Warcraft 3 back in 1999 - 2001 (talk about artistry vs tools those cinematics from Blizzard hold up easily to this day). The studio we worked with had to get a cloth plugin to get anything production ready done in Maya and that cost as much as one Maya perpetual licence per seat. It’s internal cloth simulation (year 2002 tech) is far superior in result and approach than that of Maya out of the box one. That tells you a lot of what Max could be If Autodesk decides to put a tiny bit of investment into it. To back their false claim for the past 10 years they do little to nothing to improve animation features of Max, even with a nearly 20 year old “biped tech” in Max, it is still superior to the human ik found in Maya today. Why? because Autodesk forces the institutions into a norm corner as in Maya is now the “industry standard”. Almost all animators graduating these days are Maya oriented people. As for popularity in everyday normal workflow It is clear that Autodesk is trying to shove Maya everywhere especially in universities and other learning channels as their primary go to software for games and movies (even if it falls short on so many features that require you to either hire an army of scriptwriters or buy plugins worth more than those sold for max) they are trying to create a new breed of Maya Loyal users so they can isolate their software and put them in packages. I think max and even Softimage are still great in what they do with many respects. And so was Softimage before that and before it was chopped off by none other than the brilliant minds at Autodesk. But then again we have them in all software, some more than others. I don’t even want to start on Maya… I used that thing for years on the side in a production environment. More than I could ever say for Autodesk and their greed infested management. And I would gladly pay double that if I could for the companies behind those plugins. I had to spend 4500$ on top of max’s bloated price tag to get it to a production ready state. With that said, I detest Autodesk’s approach on both pricing and so called “innovation” in their software. For the record It is always the artist and not the tool, but that’s also half the truth, without the proper tools the artist has to work twice as hard and the results may not be as well as they planned.Īs for Max, Autodesk is not going to kill off its second largest cash cow anytime soon that’s for sure. ![]() Perfectly optimized, lag free mechanism generating smooth, real looking strokes, making the most of Apple Pencil. 9 layer effects: Bevel/Emboss, Stroke, Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Outer Glow, Color/Gradient/Pattern Overlay, Drop Shadow.27 tools: Move, Select, Crop, Eyedropper, Paint, Wet Paint, Eraser, Bucket/Pattern/Gradient Fill, Smudge, Dodge, Burn, Sponge, Text, Heal, Clone, and moreĪrtstudio Pro introduces a new layer system with grouping, non-destructive layer effects, and adjustment layers.Incredible optimization ensures smooth work even with large canvases. This discipline was taught to Italian legend of the sport Marco Donello who later on passed his extensive knowledge to Mark McDonnell (his Australian nephew). Īlthough the Gracie family is typically recognized as the main family to first promote Brazilian jiu-jitsu as it is known today, there was also another prominent lineage derived from Maeda via another Brazilian disciple, Luiz França. That account has subsequently been refuted as these concepts were already inherent to Judo, commonly being demonstrated by the 164 cm (5 ft 5in) Maeda and Tsunejirō, the smallest of Kano Shihan's Shitennō. Gracie's account of the events is that his younger sibling Hélio Gracie gradually developed Gracie jiu-jitsu as a softer, pragmatic adaptation that focused more on the ground fighting and leverages aspect of Jiu-Jitsu/Judo ( ne-waza) rather than the throws, as he was unable to perform many Judo throws, due to his size, that required direct opposition to an opponent's strength. Maeda accepted him as a pupil at his school overseen by Jacintho Ferro. In 1917 Gastão's eldest son Carlos Gracie watched a demonstration of ‘Kano Jiu-Jitsu’ (Judo's common name at the time) by Maeda at the Da Paz Theatre and decided he wanted to learn. In 1916, Italian Argentine circus Queirolo Brothers staged shows there and presented Maeda. Gastão Gracie was a business partner of the American Circus in Belém. He left Japan in 1904 and visited several countries giving "jiu-do" demonstrations and accepting challenges from wrestlers, boxers, savate fighters, and various other martial artists, and arrived in Brazil on 14 November 1914. Mitsuyo Maeda, one of the Kodokan's top groundwork experts trained by Tomita Tsunejirō, the first student of judo's founder Kano Jigoro, was sent overseas to demonstrate and spread his art to the world. Sparring, commonly referred to as "rolling" within the BJJ community, and live drilling plays a major role in training and the practitioner's development. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling and self-defense situations. Later on, the Gracie family developed their own self-defense system, and published Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.īJJ eventually came to be its own defined combat sport through the innovations, practices, and adaptation of Gracie jiu-jitsu and Judo, and became an essential martial art for modern MMA.īJJ revolves around the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using a number of holds and submissions to defeat them. ![]() BJJ approaches self-defense by emphasizing taking an opponent to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.īrazilian jiu-jitsu was initially developed in 1925 by Brazilian brothers Carlos, Oswaldo, Gastão Jr., O’Brien, and Hélio Gracie, after Carlos was taught jiu-jitsu by a travelling Japanese judoka, Mitsuyo Maeda, in 1917.
